When Rick Micheri lost 38 pounds using a weight-loss product, he decided to start a business to share it with others.

The business is Amazing New Me, where clients purchase a program that includes diet supplements and consultation visits in his Rancho Bernardo office.

Micheri said he had previously tried other diets, such as Atkins, but found that on those diets, you lose muscle, tissue and water weight in addition to fat and then tend to rebound.

“Typically in other weight loss systems, you’ll lose 40 percent fat, 40 percent muscle organ tissue weight and 20 percent water weight,” Micheri said. “The problem with those programs is your body will rebuild that muscle, water weight, so you’ll gain back 60 percent on most weight-loss programs. That’s why most of those programs are unsuccessful in the long term.”

He found better success — dropping 38 pounds and 8 inches — with the products developed by the company A New Me, which he said targets abnormal fat, and started his business with his father Dario Micheri to sell that weight-loss system under the name Amazing New Me.

“Ours being geared specifically toward your abnormal fat supply — putting it back on is not as easy; it’s not automatic,” he continued, noting abnormal fat includes excessively large waistlines or cellulite.

The Amazing New Me program includes taking a naturally derived spray twice a day by mouth to increase metabolism. Clients also take an organic-based capsule to suppress the appetite, and oral Vitamin B-12 drops to boost energy.

The program lasts 71 days, which breaks down to an initial 25 days of weight loss using the products, a 21-day maintenance period, and an additional 25 days of weight loss. Although not required, clients also are encouraged to consume only 1,000 calories a day in order to lose a pound of fat a day, Micheri said.

“It’s formulated and geared to do an extensive amount of weight loss in a short amount of time,” said Micheri, noting that most people quit weight-loss programs because they last too long.

The program, which includes the supplements and consultation visits to monitor patient progress, costs $599. Through October, Micheri is offering a special for $399, in anticipation of the grand opening of the Rancho Bernardo office in October, which will eventually include a yoga studio and possibly a holistic doctor. Right now the business operates out of a smaller, temporary office in RB by appointment. The Micheris will also open a Temecula location in September and hope to further expand in 2011.

Additional programs ranging from 25 to 130 days are also available with varying discounts.
Micheri, a Poway High School graduate who moved to Las Vegas five years ago and is planning to move his family back to San Diego this year, has an entrepreneur background. He previously owned foreclosure mediation and loan modification companies, as well as being one of the owning principals for a mobile technology group. His father, Dario, a retired engineer, has been a certified yoga instructor for over 30 years and works with his son as a health consultant for the business.
