The Poway Boys volleyball team will travel to Los Angeles on Tuesday to play William Howard Taft High School in the 2010 CIF Southern California Regional Volleyball Tournament.
The Titans, 28-7, fell in three straight games to La Costa Canyon (23-25, 24-26, 24-26) in the CIF section championships, held Saturday (May 22) at Cathedral Catholic High school.
It was their first lost of the season against a team from San Diego.
In other playoff news:
• The baseball teams of Poway and Rancho Bernardo are scheduled to play first-round playoff games on Wednesday (May 26) at home.
Rancho Bernardo (22-8) is the tournament’s fourth seed, and will host the winner between Bonita Vista and San Diego at 3:30 p.m. in the Division I tournament.
Poway (20-8) is the tournament’s second seed. The Titans will host the winner between Vista and Hilltop at 3:30 p.m.
• In softball, Poway and Rancho Bernardo are scheduled to start the playoffs on Tuesday with first round games at home.
Fourth-seeded Poway (17-11 overall and 6-4 in league) will play Bonita Vista at 3:30 p.m. at Poway.
Rancho Bernardo (22-7-1 overall and 8-2 in league) is the tournament’s number four seed. The Broncos will host Granite Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
• In boys lacrosse, Poway and Rancho Bernardo’s boys teams will play each other at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25. The quarterfinal game will take place at Poway.
In their first-round matches, Poway, the tournament’s fourth seed, defeated Cathedral Catholic 11-3, while RB defeated Granite Hills 14-1.
• In girls lacrosse, Poway is scheduled to take on top-seeded Torrey Pines in a semifinal game slated for 7 p.m. on Tuesday , May 25. Poway (13-9 overall) defeated La Costa Canyon 9-8 on overtime on Saturday during a semifinal game.
Rancho Bernardo, meanwhile, was eliminated from the postseason tournament on Friday, May 21, after falling 13-10 in a first round game against Santa Fe Christian.
